9th December 1940

When I went on the bridge at 8 o’clock this morning to relieve my mate, the sun was just rising, and half the convoy was out of sight. However, when it was light we counted 22 out of a total of 25. The armed escort has not turned up yet. The weather has been pretty good so far. In future, any lights showing will be fired on by the commodore.

The old man has been yelling at the mates and engineers as per usual.
