18th December 1940

“Clare Lilly” and “Miguel de Larringa” are the 2 new ships.

At about 8 o’clock this morning we arrived at a prearranged rendezvous, which is given by the code word “cow”. Here we met 2 other ships “lost” from our convoy, and sighted two others. The old man kept me busy telling the commodore where these ships were to be seen. All ships are supposed to report to the commodore when they sight anything. We are meeting a Halifax convoy on Dec 20th at 10 o’clock GMT (a.m).

We are now steering due East. The “Llanwern” nearly collided with us tonight. Sea is very calm. Food is very poor. Everything is dirty.  The ‘Western Prince’ was sunk today.
