25th September 1940
I have spent a very enjoyable day at Hillside, near Southport. The weather has been marvellous. Southport itself, is one of the nicest towns I have seen. It is exceptionally clean and tidy, and seems to be the spot where millionaires retire.
Air raid sirens have sounded about 5 times all told, although except for a little A.A. fire this evening, nothing much has been done.
