27th April 1941
For the last two or three days, the short-wave transmission from England, has been very, very weak, and cannon shot atmospherics cause great interference. On top of that, there is fading, and very delicate tuning. Owing to it being daylight all the way across at 2000 GMT, I go down and give Paddy a hand, as it comes in his watch. Either my hearing is pretty good, or Paddy’s is not so hot, because very often he can’t hear anything but atmospherics, while I’m receiving a message.
