As we shall be leaving on Sunday, Paddy and I have decided not to go up town anymore.

It is really amazing how good looking some of these educated negresses are. Some how one always thinks of them as being fat and ugly, but with few exceptions, that is not the case. Our soldiers out here have been complaining of fifth column work going on. One lot said they heard someone addressing a crowd in a café, so they called a policeman who just laughed at them. They say they are treated like mind as a rule.

Yesterday, Paddy and I saw two drunk scotch sailors starting to have a fight, so a big policeman in a green uniform came along and just kept shoving the two of them until they fell over.

Paddy nearly went and crowned him! Admittedly the sailors were in the wrong, but the correct procedure for any policeman, is not to push them over, but to run them in. No! it’s just showing contempt for the British.

We also met a Norwegian sailor who thought we were Yanks. He said he met many nice English people in England, but they can’t fight! The next minute He said “I didn’t like the bombing!” – a fine one to criticise, eh?
