“BISMARK” SUNK 2-300 MILES AWAY.
4 TOPEDOES
ARK ROYAL
The wind has been gradually rising all day, and this evening it was blowing almost a low gale and the sea, being practically on our beam, has made us roll pretty heavily.
At midday GMT, a 292 group code message came through. Paddy was receiving it when I went down to go on watch. The poor chap was in an awful state, and missed half of it even after a repeat! A submarine msg. came thru’ soon after.
Apparently the ship reporting it was being chased. She was only a matter of miles away from us. An hour or so afterwards a raider message game thru’. Soon after it was cancelled. Apparently two unknown destroyers had seen; they are probably a bit more of our escort as the ship reporting it, was very close.
