14th June 1941

The swell has been getting heavier all day and the wind has risen considerably. Fog has come down at intervals, making convoy work difficult. We are no longer on W/T watch – I cannot say why. Several warnings of “aircraft expected” have been put up in flags but this is usual.

At 6.45 this evening, our “action stations” siren was sounded and we had to stand by the A/A gun, as enemy aircraft were supposed to have been sighted, however it was a false alarm. A floating mine drifted between ourselves and the Commodore – about 200 yds away.
