We went alongside at about 10 o’clock this morning, our berth being the old Italian Line. Our actual dry docking, will take place later. Coming down the river passed Manhattan Island from the Narrows, was a glorious sight and my enthusiasm in almost every respect, was the same as when I first saw it. As a guard against Saboteurs, a special watch is being kept. The 3 mates, Sparky’s and 6 gunners all do 1 night of 12 hours on every 5 or 6. There being 3 persons on at a time. That is to say nothing of shore gang!
