10th July 1941
Once more we have shifted, and are now laying at “Bay Way”, which is a pretty derelict looking sort of place, and is miles from any real civilisation. As usual the smell (or odour) is pretty bad. We came under the “Bayonne” bridge, which is an imitation of the “Sydney” bridge and though it’s nothing to the Yanks, it certainly is a fine bridge. Later we went under the “Gockhall” bridge, which is slightly less beautiful.
Coming up from Hoboken, we went very close to the Statue of Liberty, which looked far more impressive in the brilliant sunshine.
