6th January 1944
I received a wire from Leith this morning, telling me to report back on Friday morning. I rushed over to Beckenham to see Grandma this afternoon. She is much better now. I caught the 10.15pmm train (Flying Scot) out of Kings Cross and I arrived in Edinburgh at 9.15am (FRIDAY). Marshall at the depot, tried to apologise for recalling me from so far. He said I would have to go to Grangemouth to collect the “Empire Gareth”.
