7th January 1944
After much waiting in the office, George Richards (No.3) and I finally made our way to a YMCA in Queen Street. There we procured some cheap eats and a bed for the night. We are catching the 9.25 to Grangemouth in the morning. Edinburgh appears to be much the same as all the towns of Britain – dirty, dull and architecturally old. Masonry is used profusely even in dwellings.
I phoned through successfully tonight.
