18th February 1944
We laid a smoke screen last night as 13 ships were lost in one convoy and 14 in another just recently through glider bombs.
The N. African coast has been well in view all day, as we have been close in to shore. As we passed Oran we could see every detail of the towering, tumbling cliffs which were brought out in sharp relief by the brilliant afternoon sun.
