23rd February 1944

The Old Man went ashore this morning to see what was what and while he was gone we learned that two ships had been torpedoed just off Bȏne Harbour and that’s why we were brought in from an outside anchorage. Also we were told to shift at 1300 to make room for them. One of them, a liberty ship came in at 1400 hrs well listed to port. Her rafts and boats were gone.

George and I went ashore to look around and finished up in the pictures. There is a curfew at 1100pm. The “cinemas” of which there are four, close at 2015.

Tommy’s curfew is 2130.

Close up the town is the usual dirty place full of French and Arabs.
