22nd March 1944

We arrived at Gibraltar at 0730 and went along side for bunkers just before lunch. This operation took until 1400, during which time much coal dust was slung around. The convoy appears to be a pretty big one – the biggest ever from Gib., so they say. The “Rajput” is here. The last I heard of her, she was sailing for home from Calcutta with one of John’s friends aboard.

Yesterday we were within sight of the Nevada range of mountains all day. They looked strange and forbidding with their snow covered tops.

Some of them are as high as 11,000 feet.
