13th May 1944

I went ashore at 1700 hours and phoned Tetlows at about 1900 hours. To my utter surprise, Mrs Tetlow said that Cissie and Pegger were in New York! They were staying for the weekend at a Mrs Davies apartment (or Sylvia Stewart) – stage name), a French woman who married an RAF VR fellow in 1942. When I phoned her place, the girls hadn’t arrived, but she invited me round at 21 hours. The girls arrived at about 2200 hours but Sylvia had to go out so we just chattered til midnight and then  they went to bed, and I returned to the ship. Before I went there I had a glorious milk shake and while I was there another glass.

Jim Dodge, Cissie’s ex fiancé married another girl prior to leaving for the Pacific area.

Radio City and the Emp. State look just the same as before. The shops are full of everything and it is a great change after India and N. Africa.

Broadway is as full of shows as ever.
