Another SOS came through yesterday evening. Some ship had lost its rudder and needed immediate assistance. All boats and rafts gone, and heavy list to port. Full gale blowing. Later on a ship was torpedoed south of Halifax! The ether has literally crackled with distress messages.

We lost our aft port boat (something unusual on these ships)

M is in a bad state of nerves. Says he will leave at the end of this trip!
