26th February 1942
I caught the 2345 train from Euston to L’pool and had quite an uneventful journey, though at the same time, quite an uncomfortable one!
I stayed at the officers’ club in Lime Street station from 5am – time of arrival – until 7.30, when breakfast was served. After wandering around for a while, I finally reached Marconi’s, right on the dot of 9am. They didn’t call me until 10.30, and only then, to tell me to join a ship in Manchester!
I caught the 1100 from L. Street and was in Manchester Exchange station by 1300. Finding Salford docks, and shipping office took me until 1330. I was finally settled and unpacked on board by 1730!
