19th March 1942
We picked up the pilot at about 9.30 this morning after spending an anxious night with the subs. Some come so close to the coast that their impudence takes your breath away. There were quite a no. of ships lying just at the mouth of the river, so I suppose almost anyone could have torpedoed them.
The weather remained fine throughout the day, and we had a very interesting run for something over a 100 miles, finally docking at pier 8, just beyond the Camden suspension bridge (a huge thing). We were all very cheered indeed to see about 15 ships in various stages of construction and to see a large no. of factories and plants of varying description, all free from bombing. We stopped right outside Marcus Hook for the docker: Marcus Hook being where I laid last time on the tanker for 32 hrs.
