Hugh and I went into Bristol early this morning – I with the intention of sketching Wells Cathedral. Unfortunately, by the time we had obtained hair cuts and had lunch, we found that we had just lost the 1300 bus and that there wouldn’t be another until 1400. It takes 1 ¼ hours to get there so we decided that we would do with Bristol Cathedral. Here we managed to pass the time away very successfully and pleasantly. All of my sketching had to be done inside, owing to the gusty and wet nature of the weather outside.

In the evening we went to see “Thousands Cheer” starring Katherine Grayson and John Bales and having Mickey Rooney. Judy Garland, Ellanor Powell and Red Skelton as some of it’s guest stars. I was surprised to find it such a good film.

We are having to feed ashore as no galley fires are allowed since an American ship blew up here not long back. With Aviation Spirit aboard nobody feels inconvenienced, particularly as a bus collects us for each meal.
