17th September 1944
We passed Torquay in the forenoon. The sky has been clear of cloud all day and the sea perfectly smooth. A really grand day for coasting.
Unexpected danger came in the form of a sea mist that reduced visibility to practically nil.
Ships sounded their whistles but by the time the mist had cleared most of them were scattered far and wide!
We rounded Land’s End this evening. It was perfect: calm, warm, peaceful.
Deep shadows made the rocky cliffs stand out in bold relief.
We shall probably reach Avonmouth tomorrow evening.
