12th October 1944
The gale had eased down by this afternoon and we were able to go in and collect an ‘urgent’ cargo. During the night one Yankee Liberty ship was driven high and dry on the beach near Mumbles Pier and a Corvette sunk (46 survivors). We dragged 1 ½ miles during the night as we have only one anchor in operation. The war Department has sent a message to the Agent saying that lack of oil is holding up operations. Two Yankee fast tankers came in after us.
