14th October 1944
Despite weather conditions and lack of full cargo, we were pushed out at 0400 hrs running all sorts of risks of bashing the lock walls and going up in smoke, only to anchor until 1000 to learn that the convoy was cancelled and await further orders. Then in the afternoon, we were told to sail independently all the way!
A Yank tanker with cargo on her spar deck was not allowed to leave 5 hours late and remove her deck cargo, although she had 17 knots of speed, in order to catch up with a 12 knot convoy. Instead she was told to return to the States with her cargo. Now she is waiting 10 days for another cargo!!
