17th October 1944
I went ashore this morning but the roads were in a terrible mess, so I did not stay long! A number of lorries were bogged down to the axles and all had chains on. I saw a big petrol dump in the making. There will probably be 6 or 7 tanks there when it is completed.
We sailed at 1900 hours and were quite well on our way in convoy when the whole convoy was turned about and told to return. The reason appears to be that the weather will be too rough for the small escorts! High wind still blowing.
