16th August 1944
We continued along the coast this morning until most of the convoy branched off to France, then we went full speed ahead to the Cowes anchorage. We waited here for a short spell, then went on to Hamble Oil Refinery. It appears that we shall only be here for 36 hours, so there is no chance of going home.
This evening I went up to see Auntie Lil and Uncle Stan. Uncle didn’t recognise me! I stayed overnight. And then in the morning I cycled down to the oil refinery to find out what the ship was doing.
