Arrived Cherbourg at 06:00 hours. I went to shore at 17:00 hours and cycled to some flying bomb sites along the coast beyond Querqueville. Was impressed with thickness of concrete and accuracy of floor grooves. Likely they have not been used. 3 were completed and two were in skeleton form. I then went on beyond to some little village. The children quietly mumbled B’jour m’sieur..
Conditions of living were primitive to say the least! The road was just track. The fields had a skull and crossbones signs and mine notices on either side. The road had many mines removed from it.
