11th June 1945
Arrived at Cardiff at 0615. It was pouring with rain. Searched around for a place for breakfast. Eventually went to the central and got charged 3/3 for a sausage and a spoonful of powdered scrambled egg!
Marconi’s had no ships to offer and didn’t tell me to find accommodation until 16:00 hours. Eventually had to go to an address in Mandy Street (a poor quarter). A lady who lost her husband two years before in the Brit. Airways, runs the place. She gave her suite to us for 7/6 each. (Double bed).
