1st July 1945
The Old Man on the “Goldshell” which was torpedoed off Ostend (See 17th April 1945) lives next door to our 3rd mate apparently. All the midship crowd were lost at one go because she was struck mid ships and simply went up in flames from stern to stern. T of the engine room and after crowd got away. The chief engineer was very badly burned.
We sailed today for Rotterdam at 07:00 hours, and reached Tenneuzen Anchorage at midday. Are now awaiting orders.
