Went alongside at 18:00 hours. Started to load at once. Phoned Peggy in Philly. Nearly had her crying when I said we’d be out tomorrow.
I cycled up to town. Thought it a grand place. All the way up from Lambert Point coal tip to town, the street is lined with wooden houses, built in the colonial style of the south , with large verandas, steep – pitched roof, slender – pillared porticoes. It was a glorious evening, and it reminded me so much of the other good times that I’ve had in the States.
I had a couple of milkshakes, and ordinary milk, and thought it great.
