Location
Travelling - Paris to Purley
Age
22 Years

23 October 1945

After a pretty trying day we reached Paris at 16:00 hours and piled into trucks, which took us to the “Bedford Hotel”, 17 , Rue l’Arcade, where we registered, washed and had a cup of tea!

At 19:00 hours we had dinner with the rest of the Officers. The hotel is simply a transit hotel and no one can stay for more than 7 days.

Arthur, Colin, the 2nd mate and I went for a walk. we went on the subway free, to the Champ Élysées, and walked the length of it up to the Arc de Triomphe. Then we walked down to the River Seine, viewed the Eiffel Tower and walked along to the Place de La Concorde from which place we returned to the hotel.

I must say that I am impressed by first appearances. Main attractions is the wide avenues and long vistas, plus neat rows of trees.
