17th November 1942
A thick blanket of fog layover us at 5:15 am but it cleared in time for us to sail.
It is thought in N. Guinea that the campaign is over. Guadalcanar is almost finished! This news, coming so closely upon the N.Africa campaign, is hastening. The Americans have also achieved another naval success sinking 1 battleship, 2 cruisers, 5 destroyers, 8 transports and damaging many for the loss of 2 cruises and 6 destroyers.
