9th November 1943
At 0500 depth charges were dropped for’ard of the convoy & lights indicated that a sub was in the vicinity.
At 0935 the air raid alarm sounded again, & sure enough, there was a Focke Wulf circling around the convoy. Also circling the convoy was one of our Flying Fortresses fm. the Azores looking for subs. The alert continued for abt. 1/4 hr. & then the plane disappeared.
At 1630 the alarms were again sounded. Everyone was on the qui vive as the French straggler sighted a sub. only 14m. East of us. Everything indicates that wolfpack attack will be made sometime. The alarm lasted for 1 hour.
