The weather has abated somewhat & shifted around to our beam, so that we have made better speed. We broke into two sections of convoy at 1600 hours. We are in the Loch Ewe portion.

The German propaganda becomes more amusing (if it weren’t so tragic) every day. Their main efforts are directed towards splitting Britain, America & Russia. They have made many announcements about how they are helping the Poles, Jugoslavs, etc., by sending them to their agricultural schools, etc. The Beveridge Report provides opportunity for many digs as the Govt. won’t swallow it whole, & Churchill’s oft quoted promises of post-war reconstruction are said to be akin to Lloyd George’s “Homes for Heroes” myth of 1914-18! Britain’s fear of being neutralised in world competition by America, is another lever frequently used in an effort to split the 2 countries.
