Today has been a day of activity as far as the convoy is concerned. At about 10am, 4 destroyers and a camouflaged sub. Hunter, came out to meet us. These were accompanied by a Sunderland flying boat, which flew from convoy to destroyers, in an effort to unite them. The plane stayed with us until the afternoon. When the convoy splits up (soon now, I expect), and each section goes to its allotted ports, then the destroyers also split up, and accompany each section.

At mid-day, a distress message came through from the Melbourne Star. The messages were very terse. She stated that she had the plane, but later said that the plane had also hit her foc’sle head, injuring one man.

Several air raid warnings have come through from Liverpool and Land’s End. We can’t hear the West Coast stations yet.
