3rd November 1940
The weather is just bordering between choppy and rough. We still take some big ones over the foc’sle, and in the well deck, but they are only occasional. The wind is in the Nor’ west, sometimes veering round towards Nor’ east. It is quite chilly of a night time. The new apprentice cut my hair this afternoon, and made quite a good job of it.
We are now 40° W, so will very soon be in the Belle Isle Straits. Jock isn’t very well, and wants to leave the “Ethel” as soon as we arrive back in England.
