8th November 1940
The wind has been pretty chilly today and flakes of snow were mingled with the misty rain that fell during the morning. We nearly grounded off Anticosti Island at 1am this morning. The reason was that we travelled like a crab. “Hard to Starboard”, “Hard to Starboard”, the old man shouted even though the order had been given by the 2nd mate about a minute before. I received a message of 190 groups this morning. It is concerning Radio Officers taking over all the signalling duties on board. No wireless watch (except in special circumstances) will be required in convoy.
