9th November 1940
We took our pilot on at about 10 o’clock yesterday evening. When I woke up this morning the sun was just creeping up above the hills on the port side and lighting up the snow covered hills on the starboard side. There has been some lovely scenery all the way along, and the weather has been glorious, although cold. All the way along, the scenery reminded me of the old pioneering days. Every now and again, you would see a group of woodman’s huts and perhaps a small church with a spire at one end. We passed Quebec at 4.45pm. It looked quite a nice place but seemed to be built on the side of hill, and reached right down to the river. We also saw the Heights of Abraham, and went under the Quebec Bridge, a very good one by the way.
