19th June 1940
Once more the weather has been beautiful. A lovely calm blue sea, and a scorching sun shining down upon it. We have heard of the air raids on Yorks., Lincolnshire and the Thames. It is still a worrying time for us getting messages because the conditions, and the receiver are so bad.
This idea of France and Britain becoming united, seems to me to be a very good one – if it will work. The hour will be going forward again tonight, making it 5 hours difference between ship’s and B.S.T. It looks as if Cyril, Philip and Allen will not have to go to France at all. I suppose Brian and Bob will be joining up in this 18-19 home defence infantry business (John also is only 3 months off 18!). I often wonder how you people would feel if you saw the amount of butter we had. In 1 day we each have 2 x much as in week at HOME!!
