Did not feel too well today. I had intended resketching yesterday‘s work to compensate loss, but could not find the energy!

Was not feeling too well this evening but finally cycled up to M.N. Club at about 2030. The Hostess asked if the 3rd mate and I would mind if two girls came and sat at our table. Naturally we said it was okay. They turned out to be Jackie Brandstedlder and Willie Westphael. Jackie spoke very good English and as she was sitting next to me I got talking to her. She proved to be very interesting and before long we forgot about the dancing and discussed subjects of interest that had occurred during the war. She said, she only polished her English up during the last 2 months, and had otherwise only learned English at school.

Apparently, her family was bombed from its home this year by the RAF, who were really aiming at the V1 sites. She lived in The Hague then, which she said was a lovely place. She seemed a very sensible sort of a girl.

Willie was interested in philosophy and violin music, although she was only 17 years old. She was studying to be a journalist. Her mother was Spanish and you can see it in her appearance.

When we left the hall, Jackie wasn’t sure whether it was correct for us to escort them home or not, but we managed to come to an agreement and we took them to Willies home., where Jackie was staying for the night. Willie was anxious that we should not be offended if she did not invite us in as it was late and she preferred to introduce us to her people, who were in bed.
