26 DEPTH CHARGES DROPPED BETWEEN 6-7PM, FLYING BOAT SIGHTED SUBMARINE AHEAD OF CONVOY. EMERGENCY ALTERATION OF COURSE.

Several depth charges were dropped yesterday evening and shook the ship considerably.

Two of the escorting destroyers dropped back to keep an eye on things. The ‘Chinks’ had their life belts on and were half way into the life boats almost before the sound of the first explosion had died away! Two more distress messages came through during the night watches, and one this afternoon.

One of the soldiers, who comes from the W. End, and who is, or was, a barber, is unfortunately too ill to cut hair! He keeps wishing the ship would turn over and sink! He says his wife would cry her eyes out if she could see him!
