Today we saw the last of land, and are now once more making for the “Yankee” coast. Fog, misty rain and a heavy swell have done much to make everyone gloomy, but then sailors are perpetual growlers of the weather. Several depth charges have been dropped, but so far, nothing has happened. While we have been on wireless watches, several distress messages have come through including a ship “torpd”- at 45°! And a ship bombed at 125” from us (just over a mile).
