13th October 1944

I went up to Marconi’s this morning and discovered that Taylor was in hospital with nervous trouble due to two sinkings when he was at sea. The girl was running the show again. I paid off for 2 months. She told me that a number of trees were blown down in the gale.

The wind and rain increased again this afternoon and we had to put extra ropes out to hold her on the quay. The M.O.W.T don’t seem to know what they want. They’re trying to get us out at 0400 – in this weather!
