14th March 1944

Today G and I took sandwiches, hired bikes, and cycled along the coastal road (East) to Cap Aorkas. It was a glorious ride and the weather remained beautiful all day. Cap Aorkas likes at the foot of the snow capped mountain that we can see from the ship. The vary from 3,000 ft to 8,000. We asked for some oranges at a farm when we got there, for tangerines were growing on trees like nobody’s business! An old man in the farm took us to the house and asked a lady there. She came out on a veranda above us. I think she was one of the prettiest women I have ever seen. Anyway she gave us both a winning smile and said “Oui” we could have as many oranges as we wanted.

The countryside resembles that of N. Wales at times.
