14th September 1945
We expected to sail at 11:00 hours to an anchorage so I slipped ashore on my cycle to do some rapid shopping. I bought 41 pairs of stockings (for myself and the crowd) one slip, and one watch! When I returned, I found that the ship had not gone, so after lunch I went ashore again, but this time got a puncture and had great difficulty in getting around. Had to tear from one pumping station to another!! Bought another 30 pairs of stockings. That’s all I had time for. In all changed £38.00!
We finally sailed at 1830. There is a hurricane knocking about down Florida way.
