15th December 1944
We heard a number of depth charges at 0420. A note on the radiotelephony set reporting on one of the escorts attack. Then said it was sunk.
The weather continues to be bad.
We broke off from the convoy at 0800 when a destroyer came alongside & told us to go to St. Helen’s Roads for orders as those were changed! We did so, & arrived at 1500! Then we were told to go to Cherbourg at 2300 hrs., as our original orders were correct! Someone omitted to tell the Navy that they were changed!
