Today I started out with the intention of seeing the museum of Maori relics, but I wasn’t quite sure of the way, so I asked a stranger, and he said he would point it out to me on the map in the University or College, which was just behind us. It ended up in him showing me over the complete building: visiting every lecture room, laboratory and hall, etc. It certainly is a lovely place, and they give an extensive course there. Its library is of colossal size, and is beautifully fitted out. In addition to the main library, each section of the fine arts has its own library, so by the time they are finished they have a pretty good selection of books. Strangely, this chap was born in Catford. One of the museums was locked in the college, so he offered to show it to me if I could come back in the afternoon, which I did. It has not yet been completely fitted out, but is certainly wonderful.

At the moment, I am sitting down on a bench… and…

NEWS CAME THROUGH THAT HOLLAND HAD SURRENDERED. EVERYBODY HERE WORRIED ABOUT HOME.
