The chief excitement to-day has been around the football match between Blackpool & Arsenal. B’pool won the Northern Cup tie & League Championship, & Arsenal the Southern Cup & Ch.
John, the Chief Officer, & I listened to the commentary of the 2nd half. It was very even until B’kpl got two snap goals making it 4-2. Apparently Arsenal had a 2-0 lead in the first half! Leslie or Denis Compton was outmatched on the wing by Stan Matthews.
Out of Stoke City, B’kpl had 5 of their original team.
Churchill made a speech to the Home Guard from Washington. It is 3 years since they first started. The King has thanked the P.M. for his foresight & determination in seeing through to the finish the African Campaign.
