Halifax, Canada

18 Years

17th April 1942

No 1  and the Old Man went ashore. Weather has been beautiful. The strange thing about Halifax is that it is not an exceptionally pretty place and yet it has such wonderful colouring on a fine day.

Sunrise and sunset are the prettiest times of all, especially lying out in the basin. The delicacy of the blue in the water and shivering reflections of the ships, coupled with the grandeur of the ball of fire creeping over the hills, shedding a tinge of pink on the blue, makes one feel good inside, and seems to remove all fears and anxieties.
