17th November 1940
Snow was falling more heavily when I woke up this morning, so I decided to go up Mount Royal. It was a lovely walk up, through Maple and Spruce trees, with several inches of snow on the ground. I was not cold – in fact I was very warm! When I did reach the summit, I saw the “Croix de Mont Royale”, a big cross made in girder work to a height of 100’, and covered in electric light bulbs for illumination at night.
All around me, people were either riding horses, tobogganing, or skiing.
