18th January 1945
We picked up the pilot at 1900 hours and he cheered us by saying that several ships had been pipped in Atlantic convoys recently.
He managed to take us up the wrong Loch and we nearly went ashore. In fact we were so close at one end that the Mate could hear shouts from the pier when he dropped the anchor; and at the other, the 3rd Mate could clearly see the people in a passing bus!
