18th March 1942
Even more sub positions today. We heard two Yanks go and then heard them announce it on the broadcast radio! One of them took place just off the Delaware again! A total of 11 men were lost.
We are making amazingly good speed. The firemen must be piling the coal on thick and heavy! Either a consolidated flying boat or a Douglas Martin flew alongside us at below mast height. She was a 4 engined machine. Quite a comfort to know that they have some kind of patrol.
We should pick the pilot up early tomorrow morning.
